Do You Remember?

Does anybody remember an infomercial from the mid 80's where you could buy this product to make your own quilt?
it would like, pump out little patches, maybe in the shape of flowers? maybe it was an afgan? well when we were like 4, my best friends parents told her they ordered it to shut her up (they never did)...and it would be so funny if i could find it and buy it for her, 20 years later!!! thanks for your help!!!!

Do You Remember?

I just posted this in my personal journal. Hi, I'm new and I've just been in the most nostalgic mood lately. So I was really excited to find this community (I'm so gonna advertise in my journal!)

mysteena and I were talking about music back in the old days. REM, They Might Be Giants, the Goo Goo Dolls before they were Top 40 pop. You know, the good stuff.

So I busted out my box of tapes and popped in some of my good old music.

First I listened to Shakespeare Sisters - "STAY". That song is so COOL! Even now I was all, "Hmmm...gotta find that on Itunes or Napster or something." I love it. They were like Evanescence before Evanescence was even born. JMHO.

Then I put in Bryan Adams "(Everything I Do) I Do it for You". Wow. Now there is a girly love song if there ever was one. Every time I hear it my heart harkens back to the days of my crush on my then BF Jim - his dad was our base chapel's Chaplain. His mom and dad took us to see that terrible Kevin Costner Robin Hood movie - but Jim and I (hee hee hee - Gemini - that's what we would say) loved that terrible movie. We spent the rest of that summer tagging along with my mom to work in the evenings and walking across the street from Enterprise State Junior College in Enterprise, AL to the College Cinemas and watched all kinds of movies. We watched, and subsequently bawled, some horrible Julia Roberts film in which she becomes a friend/nursemaid/lover to a guy who was dying from cancer. And then we watched, and bawled some more, during Bill and Ted's Bogus Adventure (it was just that bad). Then after the movies we would go back to ESJC and sit in the cafeteria while my mom finished her class and we would spend a crap load of money on the juke box and dance in the cafeteria. He had taught me how to jitterbug in the aisles of our church, so it was fun to have more room in the cafeteria.

Then I went on search for my favorite of all They Might Be Giants tapes - the one with Particle Man and Istanbul, Not Constantinopal (horrible spelling) and come to find out it's GONE!!! So I settled for REM's Out of Time with Losing My Religion and Happy Shiny People. Now that brought back some memories. That cd (tape for me) came out when mysteena moved across town to another town and another school and my heart was breaking because she was my best friend and she was leaving! She would come over on weekends and we would read my back issues of Sassy Magazine and pour over the lyrics for Out of Time and think that Michael Stipe was a lyrical genius. We could care less that he was gay and probably didn't even know he was. So tonight I'm listening to it and the same feelings I got when I listened to it then I had now. It's nice to know that REM's music can stand the test of time. I remembered all the words to all the songs (I'm surprised the tape is still playable because I listened to it endlessly). I love it. I'm gonna have to find it on CD.

Hey, if anyone else has They Might Be Giants cd with Particle Man, Istanbul Not...forget it, it's insulting I don't know how to spell the old Istanbul city's name, Bird in Your Hat and the TMBG's theme song, please, please, please burn me a copy and send it to me. My heart is broken that I don't have it. Just broken. I have everything before that one and Apollo 18 after it - but it's just not the same.

Other nostalgic tapes in my little tape box Read more...Collapse )

Do You Remember?

Hey, does anyone remember "Dick Tracy"? I'm watching it right now. I used to love this movie when I was a kid.

I just realized that Mumbles was played by Dustin Houghman.

Do You Remember?

Everybody names movies like "Sixteen Candles" or "Pretty In Pink" or "The Breakfast Club" as their favorite '80s teen movies, but not me. This one is mine:

Yes, "Secret Admirer." I remember watching this movie as a young kid and totally falling in love with it, even though I did have to close my eyes when Kelly Preston showed her boobs. Not only does it star C. Thomas Howell, but it also features Lori Loughlin, who would soon rise to fame as Aunt Becky on the TV show "Full House"!! This is one movie ripe for a remake!

Do You Remember?

Alright, I admit it....I was hating on my brother for buying the "Saved By the Bell" Season 1 and 2 DVD Box Set, but after watching my all-time favorite episode last night, "Jessie's Song" (the one where she gets hooked on caffeine pills), I'm pretty much addicted. However, a lot of questions have been raised, questions that I never really thought of before when I originally watched the show. I know they probably weren't striving for perfect continuity when they wrote the episodes (which would explain the whole alternate-universe-senior-year with the biker chick Tori, but without Kelly or Jessie), but you'd think that they would at least try to make some things tie together.

For example:
-In "Jessie's Song," we see that Kelly, Lisa, and Jessie are good enough singers to peak the interest of a record company. If that's so, why is Kelly such a terrible singer in the "Miss Bayside" competition??

-Also, it always seems as if the number of Kelly's brothers and sisters changes whenever they want it to. In one episode, she just has a couple of brothers, but then in another episode, she has a sister who gets a crush on Zack (the "Teen Line" episode). What's the deal with this?

-In many episodes, it's established that Jessie's dream is to go to Stanford. Why does she abandon that dream to try to go to that fake college that they had at the college fair that she supposedly always wanted to go to?

-Jessie, Lisa, and Kelly are cheerleaders in one episode, and then in another, Kelly is the only one who is a cheerleader and Jessie and Lisa are on the track team. Either they just switched it up to be convenient, or Bayside has one hell of an extra-curricular activities program.

There are so many more questions that I need answered, but here is the mother of them all:
-Why the hell were any of them friends with Screech??? They were all so cool compared to him! Even I wouldn't have associated with Screech in high school, and I was a loser!!

Oh well, I guess the only thing I can do is wait for Season 3 and 4 to come out.

[music |"Show Me Love" Robyn]

I was going through my box of old CDs that I never listen to and came across this:

Now I've been playing "Show Me Love" in my stereo non-stop for the past few days. Whatever happened to Robyn? She came out right around the time when the whole pop scene was starting to explode, had a few hits, and then she just disappeared. I'm surprised she didn't have another album out, especially since acts like Britney and the Backstreet Boys had the chance to come out with three albums each in the same timeframe. It was probably because she's Swedish.
